Arsenal handed huge title boost as Man City star is ruled out for the season with a knee injury

Arsenal have been handed a Premier League title boost as Manchester City are set to be without midfielder Rodri for the remainder of the season, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

He was substituted 21 minutes into the game against the Gunners yesterday after injuring himself while trying to get away from Thomas Partey during a corner five minutes earlier.

His right knee caught the Arsenal midfielder, and he fell to the ground. Initial tests have confirmed that he has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Rodri is heading to Madrid for further tests but is all but out of the campaign from the look of things.

Arsenal star Jurrien Timber suffered a similar injury last term, spending almost the entire campaign out of action.

The Premier League leaders struggled without their influential midfielder once he was withdrawn, with the Gunners scoring both of their goals in his absence.

Man City have quality depth in their squad, but Rodri is one of their most important players. Manager Pep Guardiola now has a huge headache to deal with.

The Spaniard is looking to lead his side to a fifth consecutive Premier League title, but Arsenal are ready to give them a run for their money after finishing second in each of the last two seasons.

Arsenal will know their chances of winning the title this term have received a boost following the injury to Rodri, and manager Mikel Arteta will hope his players can avoid long-term injuries this term.
