Arsenal confident that Saka will be available against Man City

Arsenal were handed a huge injury scare on Sunday after Bukayo Saka limped off in the 86th minute in their 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The England international attacker has been suffering with cramps and the Gunners are confident he will fully recover this week, according to the Evening Standard.

Arsenal travel for their opening game of the league phase of the Champions League against Atalanta on Thursday before facing Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Saka is expected to be fit for both trips, which would be a massive boost for manager Mikel Arteta, given his squad’s current injury woes.

Defensive duo Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been out of action since pre-season, while midfielder Mikel Merino injured his shoulder in his first training session with the club.

Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori and Oleksandr Zinchenko sustained injuries, which left them unavailable for selection ahead of the Tottenham trip.

Losing Saka to a knock ahead of the trip to Man City would have been a considerable blow.

The Gunners will be looking to become the first team to beat the current Premier League champions this season on Sunday, and they need Saka available for the match.

Declan Rice will be returning from suspension, but it is unclear whether any of the freshly injured will return to full fitness before the game in Manchester.

Arsenal are just two points behind the reigning champions after four games, and a victory at Etihad Stadium would move them to the top of the table.
