Man United star was back to his best at Southampton yesterday

Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 3-0 Premier League victory over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils started the game slowly. The Saints had a brilliant chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot.

Andre Onana made a superb save to deny Cameron Archer which paved the way for a stellar turnaround before the interval.

Matthijs de Ligt scored his maiden United goal in the 35th minute, and Marcus Rashford was on the scoresheet a few moments later.

The second half was routine for the Red Devils, with the home side offering no attacking threat.

Alejandro Garnacho put the gloss on the performance. He made it 3-0 with seconds remaining after a lovely assist from Diogo Dalot.

De Ligt was handed the man of the match after scoring a crucial goal to open the scoring, but Lisandro Martinez was equally impressive.

The Argentine has had a mixed start to the new campaign, but he looked back at his best today.

The 26-year-old completed 97 percent of his passes while winning 100% of his duels and tackles.

Martinez also made seven recoveries and did not commit a foul before his substitution.

He was replaced by Harry Maguire in the 79th minute after picking up a knock and manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he will be assessed.

The United faithful will be hoping that he can recover in time for next weekend’s league encounter against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The club have a Carabao Cup third-round tie against Barnsley on Tuesday, and Martinez will likely be rested even if he is deemed fit to play.
