Man United want Robinson to replace Shaw in January

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is lining up a move for Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson to replace Luke Shaw if the club can raise the funds before the January transfer window, according to the Sun.

The Red Devils are preparing for life without the injury-prone 29-year-old, and they reckon Robinson could be the perfect long-term replacement for him.

Fulham are expected to demand around £30 million for the full-back, but Man United might need to sell before they can spend when the January transfer window opens.

The ability and athleticism of the former Bolton Wanderers defender have attracted the Red Devils, and the chance to join them could be very appealing.

Robinson ended last season with six assists in 37 Premier League games and has since weighed in with two assists in three league games this term.

Man United need a quality defender at left-back, with Ten Hag having to play Diogo Dalot in the position in the absence of the injured Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Robinson is an upgrade on the current left-back options at the Old Trafford club, but whether Fulham will be open to doing business mid-way through the campaign is debatable.

While it is normal for clubs to already start identifying targets ahead of January, it is too early to say if Man United will eventually look to sign a player in that position during the winter transfer window.

Shaw and Malacia could both prove their fitness in the coming months, which would see the Red Devils shelve plans for a new left-back to focus on other positions if the need arises.
