Manchester United are not interested in signing Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell before the transfer deadline, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils are currently in talks with the Blues over a swap deal involving Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho. Sporting director Dan Ashworth contacted the London club today.
Chilwell is another Chelsea player who has been linked with United, but the Red Devils have no desire to sign him.
United are without their specialist left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia with injuries, but they are happy with the makeshift options at their disposal.
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are primarily right-backs, but the duo are more than capable of operating from the left side of the back four.
Harry Amass has been promoted following a bright pre-season tour. The 17-year-old left-back is another choice for manager Erik ten Hag.
With Shaw anticipated to return from his calf injury next month, United ‘have no plans’ to move for Chilwell before the transfer window closes on Friday.
United have made the right decision on Chilwell
Dalot was a regular starter from the left-back position during the second half of last season and he has taken up the same role following another setback for Shaw.
The Portuguese had a good outing against Brighton & Hove Albion recently. He was fantastic for the best part of the game before a positional error in stoppage time.
Despite this, Ten Hag should not be overly concerned. Dalot has shown that he can learn from his mistakes and has the chance to make amends on Sunday.
United don’t need another specialist left-back with Shaw predicted to return next month.
Chilwell is a proven Premier League option available, but his injury record is dreadful.
Since the 2021/22 season, the Leicester City graduate has spent 446 days out, missing 100 competitive games. His injury record has been worse than Shaw’s.
The last thing United want is another injury-prone player in the squad. It does not make sense to sign the 2021 Champions League winner.
