Ugarte ‘will play for Man Utd’, contract ‘will be signed’ tomorrow

Manchester United are on the verge of signing their top midfield target, according to ESPN Uruguay journalist Diego Munoz.

The Red Devils have been locked in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for midfielder Manuel Ugarte for the past few weeks without an outcome.

However, they appear on the cusp of signing him. Munoz reports that Ugarte will ‘play for Manchester United’. The ‘contract will be signed’ on Wednesday.

Ugarte has already agreed terms with the Red Devils. Fabrizio Romano recently reported he is ‘ready to travel‘ once a verbal transfer agreement is reached.

United close to landing Ugarte from PSG

The Red Devils have had another disappointing start to the Premier League. They edged out Fulham during the curtain-raiser after a late goal from Joshua Zirzkee.

However, they were unable to replicate the showing against Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls grew in confidence as the game went on and scored a stoppage-time winner.

Casemiro started brightly at the Amex Stadium, but his influence was far less after the hour mark. The Brazilian’s lack of control was visible during different phases.

United need someone who can exhibit a ‘tireless‘ work rate over 90 minutes and Ugarte seems the perfect solution. The 23-year-old is entering his prime.

The former Sporting man won an average of 3.9 tackles and 6.4 duels per game last term with 7.2 recoveries. He had a brilliant passing accuracy of 91 percent in the French top flight.

Ugarte lost possession on only 7.4 occasions per outing. He would be an upgrade on Casemiro due to his better positioning, distribution skills as well as ball control.

PSG have been holding out for £51 million to sanction his exit. United are most likely to pay the fee with extra funds coming in from Scott McTominay‘s move to Napoli.
