West Ham United are keen to sign another centre-back this summer and have set their sights on Danish defender Victor Nelsson.
According to the Guardian, the Galatasaray star has emerged as a potential target for the Hammers, but they need to raise funds from player sales before making a move.
West Ham have been busy in the transfer market this summer. Despite signing eight players, manager Julen Lopetegui has talked up the prospect of bolstering the squad even further.
The Hammers have overhauled the heart of their defence with the additions of Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman, but Lopetegui wants to add at least one more player in that position.
Kurt Zouma is still expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes, while Nayef Aguerd is also on borrowed time at the London Stadium.
If West Ham can get rid of some of their dead wood, they’ll have much more wriggle room during the final days of the transfer window and already have Nelsson in their sights.
Nelsson would be a smart addition to Lopetegui’s squad
Nelsson has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur touted as possible destinations.
The 25-year-old could still end up in the English top flight, with West Ham lining up a £12 million move, although he’s also attracting interest from Sevilla, Lille and Bologna.
The Denmark international would be a smart addition to Lopetegui’s squad, having established himself as one of the finest centre-backs in the Turkish top flight.
Nelsson helped Gala to keep 11 clean sheets in 32 league appearances last season, averaging 1.4 interceptions, 2.8 ball recoveries and 3.3 clearances per match.
He also won 58 percent of his ground duels and was a force to be reckoned with in the air, boasting a staggering 73% success rate in aerial contests.
Nelsson is a solid, well-rounded centre-back and has proven during his time with Gala that he possesses the physical attributes required to succeed in the Premier League.
