United now ready to loan out McTominay with buy obligation

Manchester United are looking to sign a new defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Paris Saint-Germain ace Manuel Ugarte has been identified as the priority target, but the club are not in a position to meet their demands.

Les Parisiens want around £51 million for the Uruguay international, but the Red Devils remain optimistic of securing a discount. Agent Jorge Mendes is working hard on the move.

While this happens, the club may need to offload a midfielder from the squad to free up space and wages, and McTominay seems the likely candidate to head for the exit door.

TuttoMercatoWeb claims Napoli are interested in signing the Scotland international. United value him at £30 million, which is a stumbling block.

The Red Devils are prepared to settle for a loan deal for McTominay with an obligation to buy next summer, but the Serie A giants are unwilling to go on this path.

McTominay could still leave for a new holding midfielder

The United graduate has been in and out of the starting line-up under manager Erik Ten Hag. His position may not improve with the club eyeing a defensive midfielder.

Napoli are interested in signing him, and McTominay is reportedly open to joining Antonio Conte’s side. However, a deal is unlikely as things stand.

The 27-year-old still has interest from several other clubs. Fulham recently made a £20m bid which was turned down. The London outfit could make a renewed offer.

McTominay could head for the exit door this month if United sign Ugarte or any other holding midfielder. Burnley’s Sander Berge is another player on their radar.

The Scot played just 11 minutes during the Premier League curtain-raiser against Fulham off the bench. He completed all of his passes and won his only aerial duel.
