Manchester United debutant was brilliant vs Fulham

Manchester United started the new Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford last night.

Noussair Mazraoui made his debut for the Red Devils at right-back and was hugely impressive.

The 26-year-old previously played under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax for four seasons.

It was unsurprising that Mazraoui was able to adapt quickly. The £26 million-rated ace caught the eye with his inverted runs into midfield.

He was one of the standout performers alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

The Red Devils were far from their best against the Cottagers. They should have scored more goals with the chances created in both halves.

Bruno Fernandes missed two clear-cut opportunities in the first half. Alejandro Garnacho squandered an easy chance in stoppage time.

It did not prove costly against Marco Silva’s side, who mustered only a couple of shots on target.

The result could have been different against better opposition. Ten Hag expressed the same concern in his post-match press conference.

United’s next game is at Brighton & Hove Albion next Saturday.

Joshua Zirkzee should be rewarded a starting role up front after scoring a late winner against Fulham.

Matthijs de Ligt could make his full debut. The 25-year-old replaced Harry Maguire yesterday.

The central defender is fancied to partner Lisandro Martinez from the off at Brighton.
