Man Utd want to sign Fofana after De Ligt & Mazraoui

Manchester United have had a lively transfer window with four signings and could make more additions to the squad before the deadline.

The club have signed Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this summer.

A new defensive midfielder seems the next priority. L’Equipe claims the club have enquired about Youssouf Fofana, who is expected to leave Monaco.

The Frenchman agreed personal terms with AC Milan at the start of the transfer window, but the Rossoneri have failed to meet the asking price.

Monaco raised their valuation last month and are now looking for at least £26 million to part ways with the Strasbourg graduate.

West Ham United have also made an approach to sign the 25-year-old.

Fofana could be United’s alternative to Ugarte

The Red Devils have identified Manuel Ugarte as their priority midfield target, and super-agent Jorge Mendes has flown to England to speak with the club.

United have no plans of meeting the £60m asking price for the Uruguayan star. Their stance could change if Paris Saint-Germain provide a discount in the near future.

They could opt for a cheaper alternative. Fofana is one of the top players on their radar.

Fofana does not possess Ugarte’s strong distribution skills, but he would be a solid competitor to Casemiro, who has lacked consistency.

Casemiro stood out for United in the Community Shield with a solid display, but he has shown signs of regression due to limited pace and mobility over the past year.
