Turkish champions Galatasaray have made an opening bid to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer.
The Red Devils are aiming to sign a new defensive midfielder in the ongoing transfer window and Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is the priority target.
The club have already agreed personal terms with the former Sporting CP star, but they face a hurdle with the huge £59 million asking price set by PSG.
United will have to offload one of their midfielders to afford him and it has been reported that McTominay could be the likely candidate to leave.
Turkish journalist Ali Naci Kucuk has now revealed that Galatasaray have submitted an opening bid worth £12.65m for McTominay, but United want £25.2m.
He told Raydo Gol (via Haber Sarikirmizi): “Galatasaray have submitted an offer of €15m to Manchester United. Manchester United wanted €30m.”
“If Manchester United don’t get the offers they want, McTominay could go to Galatasaray for €20m. Let me remind you, Galatasaray signed Mauro Icardi in September.”
Man Utd should not sell McTominay on the cheap
The 26-year-old is no longer an assured starter under manager Erik ten Hag, but he has proved to be a useful performer with important goal contributions for the club.
McTominay scored seven goals and provided one assist in the Premier League last season. His contributions helped United pick up 12 extra points.
United could have finished in the bottom half of the table without McTominay and must not consider losing him on a cut-price deal this summer.
The Scot effectively has two years on his contract, considering the 12-month clause. The Red Devils should not sell for less than £25.2m in the coming weeks.
Galatasaray do not appear to be in a position to afford McTominay, but Fulham and West Ham United are more than capable of meeting the reported asking price.
It would be no surprise if McTominay continues at United next term. Manager Erik ten Hag recently said that he would like to keep the club graduate after his 10-goal season.
