Manchester United have an excellent chance to sign Fabian Ruiz amid Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of a marquee defensive midfielder this summer.
Ruiz was exceptional for Spain at the European Championship. He regularly partnered Rodri, scoring one goal and providing three assists from six appearances.
Despite his fantastic performances for La Roja, he remains a dispensable figure at club level.
He made only 35 appearances for PSG last season and was an unused substitute on 12 occasions.
RMC Sport claims the French champions are hot on the trail of Benfica’s Joao Neves, who has already given the green light to join them.
The 19-year-old’s move to Parc des Princes will reportedly open the door for Ruiz’s departure despite his standout performances for Spain at Euro 2024.
Ruiz would be a shrewd signing for Red Devils
United are currently eyeing a quality central midfielder to add to the squad. They have been linked with PSG’s Manuel Ugarte over the past couple of weeks.
However, Ruiz would be a much better signing than the Uruguay international. The Spaniard is a strong ball-playing midfielder like Ugarte.
The 28-year-old is fantastic when it comes to winning duels, tackles and making recoveries. He has the extra creativity which Ugarte does not provide.
Ruiz made ten goal contributions in 35 outings for PSG last term. He has the knack for getting into goalscoring positions with late engaging runs into the box.
Transfermarkt values him at only £25 million. For that price, he would be a huge bargain signing for the Red Devils in the current transfer window.
By contrast, Ugarte is valued at twice the value by PSG. Ruiz would be a good allround acquisition. He can comfortably operate from multiple midfield positions.
He lost possession on just 5.4 occasions per game last term, much less than Ugarte (8.2). It appears a no-brainer to land his signature ahead of the 24-year-old.
