Maguire undertaking extra training ahead of pre-season with Man United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is leaving no stone unturned in his quest for a triumphant return to the pitch.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Maguire conducted double training sessions with Man United medical staff in Portugal before his return for pre-season training.

The former United captain suffered a muscle injury that prematurely ended his 2023-24 season. The injury also cost him a place with England at the European Championship.

Extra training sessions suggest Maguire is determined to get back to full fitness ahead of the friendly games.

The Red Devils are scheduled to face Rosenborg BK at Lerkendal Stadion on July 15.

Maguire’s United future is uncertain

Erik ten Hag wants to bolster his defence following Raphael Varane’s exit from the club.

Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt has already given the green light to his move to Old Trafford.

The Premier League giants also want to sign Leny Yoro and Jarrad Branthwaite.

However, their arrivals could depend on the outgoings of Victor Lindelof or Maguire.

The England international’s contracts expire next year but the club have the option to extend it to 2026.

United could off-load Maguire this summer if a suitable offer comes in.

The former Leicester City defender had an impressive 2023/24 campaign and his importance to the team rose when United suffered injuries.

He dominated aerial duels and showed better ball progression from the back. He made 31 appearances across all competitions.

Ten Hag could be tempted to keep him as a back-up to Lisandro Martinez and De Ligt.
