Man Utd must sell £90,000-per-week midfielder after terrible Old Trafford tenure – opinion

Manchester United face a critical transfer decision with midfielder Donny van de Beek this summer.

The Red Devils must sell the Dutch international in this transfer window after he failed to impress during his time at the club.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are working on a permanent exit for Van de Beek and will not let him leave for free.

His current contract with United expires next summer which is making it tough for the club to offload him.

He is free to negotiate with overseas clubs from January 1 which is putting off potential suitors.

Van de Beek made only two appearances for United last season. He spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, he failed to shine in his eight outings for the German club.

Frankfurt signed him on loan with a £9.5 million buy-clause in the deal, but they decided against using the option.

Van de Beek is expected to report for pre-season training on July 8, along with the rest of the squad who are not on international duty.

He currently earns £90,000-per-week which is more than Rasmus Hojlund, Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay.

The Red Devils signed him from Ajax in a deal worth £35 million in 2020.

United would be delighted to receive any transfer fee for Van de Beek, considering his career has nose-dived over the last four years.
