Man Utd now prepared to sell Maguire amid double transfer plan

Manchester United are prepared to cash in on defender Harry Maguire amid Serie A interest, according to talkSPORT.

The England international lost the captaincy to Bruno Fernandes last summer and was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

However, the 31-year-old was determined to fight for his future. He turned down a proposal from West Ham United to stay with the Red Devils.

Maguire was in and out of the line-up due to competition and injuries, but he still impressed with four goals and two assists in 31 outings.

The centre-back is now in the final year of his contract and could be sold with interest from Serie A.

Man Utd should keep Maguire next season

United currently have Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Willy Kambwala as their specialist centre-backs after Raphael Varane’s exit.

Jonny Evans’ contract expired on June 30, and he has yet to agree to a new short-term deal.

United appear to be eyeing two new centre-backs for next season with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern’s Matthijs de Ligt the top targets.

If the duo arrive, there could be at least one departure. Maguire has been linked with an exit, but the club may focus on offloading Lindelof.

Maguire, who was praised by Ten Hag for his ‘massive‘ performance at Fulham last year, has a 12-month extension clause in his current deal.

Lindelof’s contract has already been extended with a clause. The Swede’s deal expires in June 2025, and no contract talks are planned.

It is most likely that the former Benfica star could head for the exit door. Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a reunion with him.
