Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign Leeds United starlet Archie Gray, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs have reportedly agreed a deal worth around £40 million to sign Gray. Centre-back Joe Rodon will join Leeds in a separate transaction worth around £10m.
Tottenham pounced on the opportunity to sign Gray after his proposed move to Brentford collapsed due to differences in the payment structure between the two clubs.
That debacle paved the way for Spurs to join the race for Gray, who is now set to sign a long-term contract with them.
The 18-year-old will join Tottenham on a six-year-contract and is expected to link up with Ange Postecoglou’s squad this month for pre-season preparations.
Gray will become Tottenham’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrival of Swedish talent Lucas Bergvall and the return of Timo Werner on another season-long loan.
Tottenham have a gem on their hands
Gray only joined the Leeds first team at the start of last season after coming up through the club’s youth ranks, but he wasted no time displaying his talent and establishing himself as a regular.
While he’s a natural central midfielder, the teenager was often deployed at right-back last season.
Gray dazzled in the middle of the park when Leeds faced Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round at Stamford Bridge despite being only 17 at the time.
The teenager is one of England’s most exciting prospects. He’s a technical midfielder who never shies away from a tackle, boasting immense passing ability and an exceptionally high ceiling.
Tottenham undoubtedly have a gem on their hands, and it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the step up to a top team in the Premier League.
