Liverpool transfer latest: Talks for Anthony Gordon collapse, Mamardashvili & Bento on goalkeeping shortlist

Liverpool are still interested in a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon even though talks over a summer transfer broke down this week, according to the Guardian

The Reds have been trailing the former Everton man for some time and could still move for him later in the transfer window.

Gordon enjoyed a breakout season last term, bagging 11 goals and ten assists in 35 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

Liverpool reportedly refused to add Jarell Quansah to sweeten their offer, which caused talks with Newcastle for the lifelong Reds fan to collapse.

However, with Newcastle struggling to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), both parties could revisit the deal.

Liverpool’s goalkeeper search is also reportedly heating up. The Reds still have Alisson Becker on their books, but Caoimhin Kelleher is pushing to move to a club where he can be the first-choice goalie.

Third-choice keeper Adrian San Miguel is set to leave for boyhood club Real Betis, forcing Liverpool into the market.

According to Marca, Liverpool are trying to hijack Newcastle’s deal for Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has been a standout at the European Championship.

The Georgian is one of the most promising European goalkeepers, and Liverpool want to pip the Magpies to his signature.

Liverpool are also keeping an eye on Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento Krepski.

The Brazilian international is considered the best in the domestic league and has been tipped for a move to Europe.

The 25-year-old could find the perfect landing spot in Merseyside, where he would be with his international teammate Alisson and Brazilian goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel.
