Lucas Vazquez to sign one-year extension with Real Madrid

Real Madrid full-back Lucas Vazquez is set to sign a one-year deal that will keep him at the club until June 2025, according to The Athletic.

The news comes after months of speculation surrounding the 32-year-old’s future, with his previous deal expiring this summer.

Vazquez’s commitment to his current employers continues a long-standing relationship that began in the club’s youth academy.

He returned to Madrid in 2015 Following a successful loan spell at Espanyol and has since established himself as a reliable squad member.

Known for his tireless work ethic and ability to play across multiple positions, Vazquez has established himself as a valuable asset for several Madrid managers.

Unsurprisingly, he is now set for a 10th season at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spaniard was brought on as a second-half substitute in Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund yesterday as Carlo Ancelotti’s side claimed a 15th Champions League title.

Luka Modric, who also came off the bench in the aforementioned game, is expected to sign a one-year extension with Madrid already showing a high level of activity in the transfer market.

Los Blancos have agreed to sign French forward Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, ending a long-standing transfer saga involving both parties.

Following a second La Liga and Champions League double in the last three years, Madrid are showing no signs of taking their foot off the gas.
