“Thank you very much for this trophy,” he said as he accepted the prize via a video.

“It’s an honour to receive it. I am sorry I couldn’t be there in person. Actually, I am not! (I’m) preparing for the Champions League final, so maybe another time.

“This one is dedicated to all my teammates, all the staff and the manager for the belief they had in me and, most importantly, the fans.

“The best club in the world. It’s a pleasure every time I get to play for this club. And Hala Madrid!”

The Englishman had an outstanding debut campaign in Spain, culminating in several individual awards.

Bellingham bagged multiple Player of the Month awards. He also claimed the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year prize.

Madrid spent around €120 million to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and he has been one of the signings of the season.

The former Birmingham City star bagged 19 goals and six assists in 28 La Liga appearances, leading Los Blancos to their record 36th domestic league title.

Bellingham has not just been about the goals. He has provided tactical solutions for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in midfield.

The Italian manager has used him in different roles and has excelled in all of them, earning plaudits for his top performances.

His excellence has extended into Europe, where Madrid are looking to claim a 15th Champions League title. He has tallied four goals and four assists in ten appearances.

Madrid will hope Bellingham can deliver the goods when they face his former club in the final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
