Liverpool will be looking to bolster their forward department this summer but won’t be making a move for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.
The Reds are also showing keen interest in Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah. Journalist Ben Jacobs (90min.com) claims sources have told him that Liverpool will not pursue either player.
Liverpool are heading in a new direction this summer after Jurgen Klopp’s departure. With a new footballing structure in place, the club will help Arne Slot carry Klopp’s legacy forward.
The Reds’ top priority this summer is signing a wide, creative-minded player, and Gordon is a player they reportedly admire. They appreciate Gordon’s talents but feel he will be too expensive.
The Merseyside giants are also looking to buy a new centre-back this summer after Joel Matip was allowed to leave following the expiry of his contract.
A move for Gordon is highly unlikely
The Daily Star recently reported that the Reds are eyeing a move for Gordon and they would need to pay close to £100 million to sign the versatile attacking midfielder.
They need to boost their attacking ranks, with Mohamed Salah’s future currently unclear. He has a year left on his current contract and has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
They rejected a huge bid for Salah last summer, but the situation could change. In recent weeks, several well-connected journalists with Liverpool have suggested they will likely keep hold of the forward.
Gordon, who can play in multiple positions, has scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists this season. He is hoping to make the England squad for the 2024 European Championship.
Despite his undoubted talent, Liverpool are unlikely to pay £100m to secure his services.
