Southgate calls up Liverpool duo Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones for England ahead of Euro 2024

Liverpool pair Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones have made Gareth Southgate’s provisional 30-man squad for the 2024 European Championship, according to Paul Joyce.

Quansah emerged from the academy as Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip struggled with injuries this season.

The 21-year-old has become a mainstay in the first team, partnering Virgil Van Dijk in the centre of defence. He helped the Reds keep two clean sheets in 17 league appearances this term.

Quansah netted his first goal for the club against Aston Villa and followed up with another against Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final weekend.

Teammate Jones has also received a first call-up to represent the Three Lions. He made 23 appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, recording a goal and an assist.

Southgate has dropped former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson for the tournament in a move which will delight most England fans.

England are bidding to win their first continental title and are one of the favourites to lift the trophy. They start their campaign against Serbia on June 16.

Southgate must reduce his squad to 26 players before the tournament, leaving several players sweating on whether they will make the final cut.
