Man Utd need to reward Fernandes with a new contract to end transfer talk

Manchester United should hand a new long-term contract to captain Bruno Fernandes amid the recent speculation over his future at the club.

The Portugal international has been a mainstay in the Red Devils’ starting line-up since arriving from Sporting CP during the 2020 January transfer window.

Fernandes has shown exceptional fitness levels with just two games missed through injury. He has not been at his best this season but has still been their best performer.

The 29-year-old was recently named man of the match in the 3-2 win over Newcastle United, where he registered his 12th assist of the season on Rasmus Hojlund’s goal.

Fernandes has also scored 15 goals this season. With such consistency, the club may need to open talks over a new deal soon. Fernandes’ current contract expires in June 2026, and there is an option to extend it for another year.

The midfielder is reportedly unhappy with his current £230,000-a-week wages, less than Marcus Rashford’s, who signed a new contract worth £300,000 per week last year.

The Portuguese deserves parity with last season’s top scorer for United. Unlike Rashford, Fernandes has been consistent with his goal contributions for the club.
