Xavi could be sacked as manager after his comments anger the Barcelona board

Xavi Hernandez announced his decision to leave Barcelona at the end of the season after the 5-3 loss against Villarreal in January.

But he later reversed his decision to remain as manager until the end of his contract in 2025.

However, fresh doubts have emerged about the 44-year-old’s future at Camp Nou following his comments about the club’s economic situation before their La Liga match against Almeria.

According to RAC1, the La Liga outfit’s board members are furious with the Spaniard for publicly discussing the club’s financial position.

Xavi said in his press conference (per the Daily Mail): “The Culé must understand that the situation is very complicated to compete economically.

“It has nothing to do with what we had 25 years ago when the coach would come and say ‘I want this one, this one, and this one’. It doesn’t work like that anymore.

“I understand that, and that’s how we’re going to adjust to it. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to compete. We need stability and time.

“There are good things to compete for. The situation we are in is the situation we are in in terms of results.

“Last year we were solvent without playing the football we would like to play and this year, we have played better, but with worse results.

President Joan Laporta is considering severing ties with Xavi after previously convincing him to reverse his decision.

Xavi took over as Barcelona boss in November 2021 and guided his side to the La Liga crown and Spanish Super Cup success.

But results haven’t been as good this term, and they are fighting for second place with Girona

The Catalans are four points ahead of their Spanish rivals in the La Liga standings, but Michel’s side still has a slim chance of overtaking them.

Barca will host Rayo Vallecano on Sunday before ending their season with a trip to Sevilla on May 25.
