Liverpool move for Anthony Gordon unlikely this summer

Liverpool ‘like’ Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, but a summer transfer is unlikely, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Gordon’s stock has risen considerably since his move to Tyneside last year. The 23-year-old has bagged 11 goals and ten assists in 35 Premier League appearances this season.

His impressive displays for the Magpies earned him an England call-up, and he could be on the plane to the European Championship this summer.

Just over a year after joining Newcastle, he’s generating transfer rumours again. Liverpool may be looking to bolster their squad, particularly with Mohamed Salah’s future up in the air.

The Egyptian is about to enter the final year of his contract, and there are no concrete talks regarding an extension.

With Saudi Pro League clubs prepared to pursue Salah’s signature again this summer, there is uncertainty surrounding his future.

Luis Diaz has also been linked with a move away from Anfield. Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing him this summer if he becomes available.

Newcastle will reportedly demand £100 million for Gordon. This sum could put off Liverpool, who prefer to sign value-for-money players.

However, it is worth noting that Newcastle will likely sell one or two players to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and selling Girdon could help the club generate funds.

Liverpool’s interest is there, even though a move will likely not come this summer, but this is one to watch for the future.
