How Postecoglou responded when Spurs staff joked about throwing Man City game

Tottenham Hotspur will not be playing in the Champions League next season after they lost 2-0 to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

However, many of their supporters were pleased with the defeat as it dealt a massive blow to Arsenal’s title chances.

A victory for Spurs would have kept their top-four hopes alive and left the Gunners needing a win on the final day of the campaign to claim their first Premier League title since 2004.

However, Tottenham fans did not want that to happen, and manager Ange Postecoglou was far from pleased with that thinking.

According to The Athletic, he was furious when a member of the support staff joked that Spurs should play a youth team against Man City.

The former Celtic boss could not believe that many Tottenham fans were happy with the result given how it affects Arsenal, and his reaction is understandable.

However, rivalries in football do not always make sense, and Postecoglou will most likely never understand the enmity between the clubs.

Spurs fans would have loved to see their side in the Champions League next term, but they were willing to give it up if Arsenal did not get their hands on the Premier League trophy.

It is not a logical mentality, but it shows how bitter the Tottenham faithful are toward the Gunners.

Despite their eternal rivalry, Arsenal fans and players were Spurs supporters for those 90 minutes against Man City, temporarily putting their differences aside.

Tottenham are in danger of missing out on qualifying for the Europa League after losing five of their last six league games.

They need to win or draw against Sheffield United on Sunday to secure a spot in the group stage of the competition.
