Man United star impresses against Newcastle but could leave soon

Sofyan Amrabat delivered another solid midfield performance for Manchester United during the 3-2 Premier League win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

The Moroccan has had a difficult loan season. He has spent most of his time on the bench, with manager Erik ten Hag preferring Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Kobbie Mainoo over him.

Amrabat impressed in the recent 1-0 defeat against Arsenal. He got the nod in the centre of the park alongside Mainoo after Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount were ruled out with injuries.

He was rewarded with another starting role against the Magpies yesterday. He fared well again with a passing accuracy of 93 percent. He managed 51 touches over 90 minutes.

The midfielder was lucky not to concede a penalty for a foul on Anthony Gordon. However, he was brilliant defensively and made a terrific recovery to deny a clear goal for Alexander Isak.

Despite his recent form, he is unlikely to stay with United. He was signed on loan from Fiorentina for an initial €10 million with an option to buy for €20m plus €5m in add-ons.

A lot more was expected from him after a fantastic 2022 World Cup with Morocco. However, the new hierarchy will likely decide against a permanent deal.

Amrabat will be 28 in August this year. The onus could be on recruiting a couple of younger midfielders with experience.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could also leave this summer.
