Real reason why Tuchel substituted Kane in Bayern’s defeat to Real Madrid

Bayern Munich were on course for an excellent Champions League victory against Real Madrid after Alphonso Davies’ stunning 68th-minute strike on Wednesday.

However, things changed dramatically after manager Thomas Tuchel opted to take off Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala with five minutes of normal time remaining.

The decision backfired as substitute Joselu quickly scored the equaliser after Manuel Neur spilt Vinicius Junior’s shot.

The Stoke City flop added another in stoppage time to lead Madrid to their 18th Champions League final

Tuchel was criticised for the late changes that cost them a place in the final.

However, journalist Rafa Honigstein reported that Tuchel told DAZN after the match that the England international had picked up an injury.

Kane joined Bayern last summer in the hope of winning a major trophy at the club.

But Wednesday’s defeat means the striker will not be able to lift any silverware this season.

The 30-year-old has been excellent for the German giants since moving in an £86 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur.

He has registered 44 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Despite his efforts, Bayern will end the campaign empty-handed.
