Manchester United are ready to make a €50 million bid to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer this summer, according to Calciomercato.
The Red Devils are expected to invest in a marquee centre-back and have been linked with Bremer on multiple occasions in recent months.
Calciomercato claim United are prepared to make a €50m lunge to sign the Brazilian star.
The Red Devils are also willing to hand an annual salary of €10m per year (€192,000 per week) which the centre-back is unlikely ‘to say no to’.
The Bianconeri plan to hold out for at least €70m, particularly if they are unable to sanction other big sales this summer.
United should not pay over the odds for Bremer
Bremer has been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford by Italian media outlets.
There could be some truth to the transfer links, but United should avoid paying over the odds for him.
The 27-year-old is one of the best centre-backs in Serie A and recently signed a new Juventus deal.
Despite this, the Bianconeri are open to selling him with the need to balance their financial books.
Bremer would be a good signing owing to his all-round attributes. He has completed 86 percent of his passes this term with an average of almost four long balls.
Defensively, he has won 60 percent of his duels alongside 1.6 tackles, 4.1 clearances and 5.4 recoveries per game. He has helped to keep 15 clean sheets in Serie A this season.
He would be a good acquisition at €50m. United should avoid paying more than that for Bremer, who has been described as an ‘exceptional’ player by Juventus legend Sergio Brio.
The club have been guilty of being held to ransom when negotiating player deals. They paid over the odds to sign Lisandro Martinez and Antony from Ajax in 2022.
It was the same last summer. They made a huge outlay of €85m to sign Rasmus Hojlund. Despite his potential, Atalanta convinced United to spend a massive sum.
This needs to be avoided in future transfer windows. Hopefully, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team can sort this out with stronger negotiation skills this summer.
