Bayern eye blockbuster move to bring Guardiola back in 2025

Bayern Munich are reportedly plotting a sensational swoop for Pep Guardiola when his contract with Manchester City expires in 2025, according to Kicker.

He has not shown any sign that he is interested in signing a new deal with City, and the Bundesliga club wants to move for him.

Guardiola’s reign has been a trophy-laden dream, winning 14 titles for the club since joining in 2016. He has won the Premier League five times and could clinch a sixth this term.

However, his Bayern chapter might not be entirely closed. The Catalan manager joined Die Rekordmeister in 2013 after leaving Barcelona and taking a one-year sabbatical.

Guardiola won the Bundesliga three seasons in a row and clinched the DFB-Pokal twice. He also picked up the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time with the Bavarians.

Unlike his City dominance, the Champions League crown eluded him during his three-year spell at Bayern, and he is keen on scratching that itch.

The 53-year-old frequently visits Munich. He still owns an apartment there and some people believe he has unfinished business in Bavaria.

However, Bayern must navigate their current managerial situation. The club moved quickly and announced the departure of Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season

But Bayern have struggled to attract any of their targets. Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso decided to stay with them, while former boss Julian Nagelsmann rejected the opportunity to return to the club.

Austria’s Ralf Rangnick also rejected Bayern’s call, leaving the Bavarians in a pickle.

Fans have been vocal about their disdain for the options being touted, even asking the club to keep Tuchel.

An interim manager for 2024/25 is a possibility. But with the Champions League final gracing the Allianz Arena that year, the Bavarians are unlikely to settle for a caretaker.
