‘Intelligent’ star was Arsenal’s best player today, better than Rice

Arsenal playmaker Kai Havertz delivered another stand-out performance during the 3-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium today.

The Gunners lacked a cutting edge in front of the goal but still won by a convincing scoreline.

Declan Rice was adjudged the man of the match after his goal and assist in the second half, but Havertz had an equally good outing and played a big part in the victory.

Arsenal struggled to score for most of the opening half, but they eventually broke the deadlock after the German won a penalty in the 45th minute.

Bukayo Saka converted the resultant spot-kick for his 20th goal of the season.

Havertz put the ball on the plate for Saka to double the advantage after the break, but he failed to capitalise as he rushed his effort.

Aside from the penalty, Havertz won an impressive 12 ground and aerial duels alongside four tackles. He provided three key passes, creating two big chances for his teammates.

Manager Mikel Arteta described Havertz’s performance as ‘unbelievable’ and added his movement was ‘intelligent‘ in and around the box.

Havertz had a slow start to his debut season at Arsenal, but his form has been exceptional since the turn of the year. He has registered 13 goals and six assists in 49 outings.

The former Chelsea man has been fantastic since becoming a permanent striker for the Gunners. He could force the club into rethinking their need for a marquee centre-forward.

Arsenal still trail Manchester City in the title race despite the win. City are only one point behind the Gunners and have a game in hand against Tottenham Hotspur.

Arteta’s side can only do their job over the final two games and hope the reigning champions slip up.
