The Premier League has revealed the nominees for the Player of the Month award for April 2024 after an enthralling 30 days of football action.
Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes is one of the nominees and a top contender for the prize after contributing seven goals during the month.
Fernandes started the month with a guided header against Chelsea that pulled the Red Devils back into the game from 2-0 down.
The Portuguese midfield maestro was at it again a few days later, scoring a long-range effort against Liverpool after catching Caoimhin Kelleher off his line.
The 29-year-old then scored a brace against Bournemouth to help United to a 2-2 draw and followed up with another double when they took on Sheffield United.
Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol is another nominee after producing several eye-catching performances last month.
Gvardiol scored and assisted in the 5-1 mullering of Luton Town. He also opened the scoring against Nottingham Forest and helped the Cityzens keep two clean sheets in five games.
Arsenal’s Kai Havertz has also been devastating over the past few weeks. The German forward assisted Martin Odegaard’s opener in the 2-0 win over Luton and scored the second in the 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
Arsenal suffered a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa but responded with a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Havertz played a crucial role in the second goal.
Havertz bagged a brace in the 5-0 hammering of Chlsea before scoring what proved to be the winner in the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Crystal Palace centre-forward Jean-Philippe Mateta netted five goals in six outings for the Eagles. He has been revived under new manager Oliver Glasner.
Mateta scored in the 4-2 loss to Man City before notching successive braces in wins over West Ham United and Newcastle United.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has been one of the bright spots in a very dark season for the Blues. The Englishman bagged a hat-trick against United before scoring four in the 6-0 win over Everton.
After eight goal contributions in the past month, Palmer remains one of the top candidates for the Player of the Season award.
Everton secured their Premier League safety after claiming four wins from six games in April, and they have Jordan Pickford in goal to thank.
The England international kept four clean sheets as Sean Dyche’s men kept themselves in the top flight for another year.
A poor showing against Chelsea notwithstanding, he was superb against Forest, Brentford and in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
