Under-fire West Ham boss Moyes receives shocking enquiry from Russia

West Ham manager David Moyes has received a surprise enquiry from Russian side Spartak Moscow, according to the Daily Mail.

The Scot’s current contract expires at the end of the season. He will hold talks with club owner David Sullivan to address his future.

Moyes has come under fire for West Ham’s recent struggles. The Hammers have won only four of their 22 games this year.

The East Londoners crashed out of the Europa League after suffering defeat at the hands of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, and most of the blame was laid at Moyes’ feet.

The 61-year-old was criticised for keeping a small squad that eventually lost steam as the season entered its final stretch.

Also, his defensive/restrictive style of play has been under the microscope, with fans demanding a more exciting brand of football.

Moyes’ future is quite uncertain as West Ham consider what to do next.

Taking advantage of this ambiguity, Spartak, who sacked manager Guille Abascal two weeks ago, approached Moyes to gauge his interest in taking the helm next season.

Sources close to Moyes suggest he is hesitant about committing to Spartak. He is focusing on guiding West Ham through the remainder of the season.

This news comes amidst ongoing global criticism of Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The conflict has seen a wave of athletes boycotting competitions in Russia, with many foreign players seeking exits.

Despite this, Moyes has a strong reputation in Europe, solidified by West Ham’s Europa Conference League win last season. Although, it remains unclear what the future holds for him.

West Ham have reportedly begun exploring alternatives. Former Wolverhampton manager Julen Lopetegui is said to be favoured by some within the club, while Lille’s Daniel Fonseca and Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna are also on their radar.

The Hammers also spoke with Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim, who is open to a Premier League move, but he will likely move to another club.
