Arsenal have ‘great interest’ in signing Gimenez, move should be avoided

Arsenal are likely to recruit a marquee striker this summer and they have already been linked with several names from Europe’s top-seven leagues.

Gimenez has been to move to the Emirates Stadium and Calciomercato.it claim he was watching the recent game at Tottenham Hotspur in the stands.

Arsenal have reportedly been following him with ‘great interest’ and could make an approach for his services when the transfer window reopens.

However, the Gunners should avoid a move for the Mexico international.

Gimenez’s inconsistency should be a concern for Arsenal

The 23-year-old started the campaign in fantastic form with 15 goals from just 10 appearances, but he has since been poor with only nine goals from his next 30 games.

As a result, he has somewhat gone off the radar. The Gunners should avoid an approach for the Mexican ace for his lack of consistency over the season.

The other negative would be his ball-playing ability. Gimenez is not known for his link-up play and averages just nine passes per game. His playing style may not suit Arsenal.

The Gunners need a centre-forward who can score goals and create chances. Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is a solid transfer candidate for the club.

The Swede would be much costlier than Gimenez, who is valued at €45 million by Transfermarkt, but he would be a much better fit for the tactical requirements under manager Mikel Arteta.

Kai Havertz has grown into the centre-forward position with eight goals and five assists in his last 11 league outings, but Arteta will want strong competition for places next term.

Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have lacked consistency playing up front and the latter seems most likely to head for the exit door with the arrival of another centre-forward.
