Arne Slot is ‘new favourite’ for Liverpool job

Arne Slot has emerged as a ‘serious candidate to become the next Liverpool manager.

The 45-year-old is the leading candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp as the next manager at Anfield, although nothing has been decided yet, according to The Times,

Journalist Ben Jacobs suggests that Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Barcelona are also interested in appointing him.

Feyenoord are keen to keep him at the club, and it will take a compensation package of over €10 million to take him and his staff on board.

Liverpool missed out on Xabi Alonso who has decided to continue with Bayer Leverkusen. Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim was considered but he is now only an outside contender for the role.

Tottenham Hotspur wanted to appoint Slot last summer before they approached Ange Postecoglou. However, he wanted to continue with Feyenoord and decided to stay.

But he may move on in the summer, and there isn’t a shortage of options.

Slot fits the bill at Liverpool

The Dutch manager has done terrific work with Feyenoord and guided them to a league title last season. He has won the Dutch Cup this season.

Liverpool have been attracted by his ability to improve players, commitment to playing an attacking brand of football and implementation of high-pressing football.

Much like Alonso, he has completely transformed Feyenoord and made them a strong force again.

Liverpool are still in talks with other potential candidates behind the scenes, but Slot seems to be a very good option.

Slot is a disciple of Pep Guardiola and knows the Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.

In other Liverpool news, Gary ‘Neil is not under consideration for the job.
