Tottenham Hotspur are plotting another summer raid on Genoa amid plans to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s options in attack.
Having already signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa in January, Spurs are planning to use Djed Spence in a potential player-plus-cash deal to sign Iceland striker Albert Gudmundsson.
Spence is one of several Spurs players on the chopping block ahead of a crucial summer transfer window after failing to make his mark at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Despite arriving in north London as a promising prospect following his exploits in the Championship with Middlesbrough, he has failed to live up to expectations.
The 23-year-old has featured just six times for Spurs and struggled during loan spells at Stade Rennais and Leeds United. However, he appears to be finding his feet in Serie A with Genoa.
That bodes well for Spurs who have plans of their own, and Italian news outlet Calciomercato suggests that the strong ties between both clubs could trigger a wave of transfer activity this summer.
Gudmundsson would be a decent addition for Spurs
Gudmundsson has been one of Genoa’s standout performers this season. His 13 goals and three assists in 31 Serie A games have been crucial for the Italian outfit in their quest for a top-half finish.
The 26-year-old also notched two goals and an assist in the Coppa Italia, taking his tally to 19 goal contributions for the 2023/24 season.
Gudmundsson’s nimble footwork and turn of pace makes him difficult for defenders to contain. He has also created five big chances and can feature anywhere across the front line.
The former PSV Eindhoven ace would be a solid addition to Postecoglou’s side, although he’s hardly the kind of signing that can transform Spurs into title contenders.
Nevertheless, his £30 million valuation makes him a low-risk acquisition.
Genoa have the option to make Spence’s move permanent for £8.5m after his 11 appearances for the club. If Spurs can pull off a swap deal, it could be an agreement that benefits all parties.
