Arsenal & Man City set to fight for Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes this summer

Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Manchester City will go head to head for the signature of Newcastle United’s midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to The Telegraph.

Both clubs are looking for midfield reinforcement and have their sights set on the Brazilian international, who has four goals and six assists in 31 league appearances this season.

Guimaraes has been a pivotal player for Eddie Howe’s side since joining the club in January 2022.

The former Lyon man can anchor midfield and has the ability to play as a box-to-box dynamo.

He is aggressive off the ball and surprisingly good on it. Guimaraes is a terrific passer over short and long-range distances, making 7.5 progressive passes per 90 minutes.

The 26-year-old is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Unsurprisingly, he has attracted the interest of the big guns eager to bolster their squad with quality.

Arsenal want to add Guimaraes to their ranks, with Thomas Partey waning due to fitness issues. Jorginho could also leave the Gunners this summer when his contract expires.

Manchester City must add quality to their squad this summer, especially in midfield, with Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic struggling to make any telling impact.

They have identified Guimaraes as a potential addition to partner Rodri – a combination that would make life difficult for any team.

Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the former Athletico Paranense midfielder, but the Premier League clubs are now at the front of the queue.

Guimaraes has a £100 million release clause in his contract, but suitors will try to negotiate a lower fee.
