Liverpool secured a hard-fought 3-1 win over Fulham thanks to goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota today.
The Reds travelled to London knowing they could not afford to drop more points in the Premier League title race following recent results against Manchester United and Crystal Palace.
Liverpool crashed out of the Europa League in midweek, losing 3-1 to Atalanta on aggregate.
Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk subsequently urged the squad to make one final push for the Premier League title, and the Reds heeded his call as Alexander-Arnold curled home an excellent free-kick in the 32nd minute.
However, Fulham refused to lay down and got back into the game before the half-time break through full-back Timothy Castagne, who smashed in the equaliser after some pinball in the box.
Jurgen Klopp’s side defended Antonee Robinson’s cross poorly – a feature that has crept into their play over the past few weeks.
However, Liverpool came out aggressively in the second half and their gung-ho approach paid dividends.
Ryan Gravenberch picked up the ball in front of the Fulham box and produced a gorgeous hit beyond Bernd Leno, ending their barren spell from open play that had run for over 350 minutes.
Diogo Jota capped the win in the 72nd minute, bagging his 100th goal in English football and 56th for the Reds.
Liverpool’s win today puts them back in the title race, with Manchester City holding a game in hand due to FA Cup duties this weekend.
The Merseysiders are level on points with table-topping Arsenal on 74 points, while City trail with 73.
The Merseyside derby against Everton is next on the agenda on Wednesday. They then face West Ham United before welcoming Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield.
Liverpool can only try to accrue as many points as possible in this final stretch as they search for a glorious end to the season, and they set themselves on the way with a morale-boosting win at Craven Cottage.
