Arsenal battling with Liverpool for Real Madrid star

Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy this summer, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

The La Liga club are keen on signing Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies. They are willing to sell Mendy as he is out of contract in 2025.

Arsenal are monitoring the situation but are not the only Premier League club keen on the Frenchman, with Liverpool and Newcastle United also admirers of the 28-year-old.

Napoli are also interested, but a move to the English top-flight could appeal to the former Lyon star, and winning the Premier League could give the Gunners a chance.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been unable to call on summer signing Jurrien Timber due to his long-term injury.

While the versatile Netherlands international will be available towards the end of the campaign, full-back is a department Arsenal are looking to strengthen ahead of next season.

There is uncertainty surrounding the future of Ukraine international left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko at the club, and it appears Mendy has been identified as a potential replacement.

The France international brings quality and much-needed experience to the table, and Arsenal could do with such a defender as they look to establish themselves as regular challengers for the title and Champions League.

Mendy can also play as a midfielder due to his superb abilities on the ball, with his passing and ball-retention qualities being some of the key features he possesses.
