Serie A champions want to sign United wonderkid, Rio Ferdinand said he was ‘magnificent’

Napoli are considering a surprise approach to sign Manchester United wonderkid Willy Kambwala this summer, according to Italian outlet Dot Sport.

The Serie A holders have had a dismal title defence. They are currently seventh in the table and a staggering 34 points behind league leaders Inter Milan.

This is likely to pave the way for plenty of changes this summer and Dot Sport claim they are eyeing an ambitious swoop for Kambwala.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis will reportedly ‘try to start’ negotiations over a potential summer deal for the teenager.

United unlikely to entertain permanent exit of Kambwala

Kambwala has come into the limelight in recent months with the vast injuries in the centre-back department.

He has played 234 minutes in six Premier League games and has caught the eye with his distribution and aerial presence.

The youngster has also been brilliant with his concentration and decision-making at the heart of the backline.

Rio Ferdinand recently said that he was ‘magnificent‘ after a solid performance in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

With such promise, United are unlikely to contemplate the prospect of selling him to Napoli this summer.

If the club were to sign multiple marquee centre-backs, Kambwala could be loaned out next season.

This would aid his development. A season in the Primeira Liga or Eredivisie would be the preferred choice.
