French journalist Fabrice Hawkins has shut down speculation that Chelsea target Victor Osimhen has reached an agreement to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Osimhen’s long-term future has been subject to intense speculation throughout the season, with the Nigerian striker heavily expected to leave Napoli this summer.
He has a release clause that makes him available for around €120 million, and several clubs have expressed an interest in luring him away from Naples.
Chelsea are considered front-runners in the race to secure his signature, but PSG are also eager to land a marquee signing this summer, and Osimhen fits the description.
While there is no agreement for Osimhen to move to the French capital this summer, Hawkins confirms the 25-year-old hasn’t closed the door on returning to Ligue 1.
Osimhen has struggled to hit the heights he reached last season for different reasons, including injuries, but he has notched 14 goals and four assists in 26 games across all competitions.
Osimhen to PSG is a win-win for all parties
Chelsea should distance themselves from signing Osimhen, especially at that price.
Over the years, big-money striker signings haven’t worked out for the Blues and there’s no guarantee Osimhen would break that jinx.
Considering Nicolas Jackson has shown all the raw tools to excel at Stamford Bridge, signing a marquee striker would only stifle his development.
Chelsea are better off exploring other cut-price options in the market, particularly VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, whose release clause makes him available for just £17m.
His exploits in the German top flight suggest he would be a better signing for Chelsea than Osimhen.
Guirassy has netted 24 times in 22 Bundesliga appearances despite suffering his fair share of injury niggles this season.
More importantly, signing the 28-year-old wouldn’t hinder Jackson’s development, with the Senegalese forward already considered one of the most promising strikers in Europe.
