Big injury blow for Aston Villa as key player out of Man City clash

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has been ruled out of the Premier League fixture against Manchester City tomorrow due to a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old was taken off at half-time against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.

Manager Unai Emery says the striker has a ‘small injury’, but the upcoming game will come too soon.

Midfielder Jacob Ramsey will also be absent due to a foot injury he picked up against Luton Town last month.

“They will not be available tomorrow,” Emery said (h/t The Athletic). “They have small injuries. Jacob Ramsey is not getting better like he wants. We are not in a hurry with him.

“With Ollie, it is more or less the same. Ollie’s injury is a small injury. With some days rest, maybe he could be available for the next match.”

Watkins has bagged 16 goals and ten assists in 30 Premier League matches this season. His absence for the tricky fixture against Man City is a major blow to Villa.

The Lions defeated Pep Guardiola’s side 1-0 at Villa Park in December, with Leon Bailey scoring the decisive goal.

City will be looking for revenge when the two sides face each other at the Etihad Stadium.

The defending champions were not at their best when Arsenal held them to a disappointing goalless draw on Sunday.

They will be eager to return to winning ways to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.
