Arsenal could sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney for £60m

Arsenal are currently in a fierce Premier League title race with Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Gunners are ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side on goal difference, while Man City are one point adrift in third place.

Sunday’s blockbuster clash at the Etihad Stadium will be crucial for Mikel Arteta’s side in their quest for the league title that eluded them last season.

With eight successive wins in the English top-flight, the Gunners are peaking at the perfect time.

The latest Arsenal news shows they have been resolute in defence, while Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus look good in attack.

However, the Premier League giants are still expected to sign a world-class striker in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Brentford’s Ivan Toney, albeit for a fee close to £100 million.

However, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has suggested that around £60m would be enough to secure a deal for the 28-year-old.

Sheth said: “Do I expect him to go for £100m? Brentford will want £100m for him, but other clubs will be very, very aware that he’s unlikely to sign a new contract.

“He’s entered the final 12 months and they will probably use that to bring the price down. So £100m, probably not. You’re probably looking at around the £50m/£60m mark potentially.

“Ivan Toney will probably be a good deal for all parties then in the end because Brentford will get good money that they can replace Ivan Toney with and they’ve already started doing that haven’t they?

“They’ve already looked at other players and already signed players on pre-contracts ahead of the summer, so they’re already looking at life after Ivan Toney.”

Toney marked his return from his eight-month exile with a goal against Nottingham Forest in January.

He has since scored three more times for the Bees, who are battling to secure Premier League survival this season.

The 27-year-old also shone in his European Championship audition for England earlier this week as he scored in the 2-2 draw with Belgium at Wembley Stadium.
