Bayern Munich will continue their search for a defensive midfielder this summer, and Everton ace Amadou Onana is the latest name on their extensive shortlist.
The Telegraph reports that the Bundesliga champions are ready to intensify their pursuit of the Belgian midfielder this summer, although much will depend on Everton’s Premier League status.
The Toffees are fighting for their lives in the relegation zone, and a second hearing for breaching Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) threatens to plunge their campaign further into chaos.
Sean Dyche’s side have already been forced to work with a six-point deduction, but there could be more punishment on the horizon with the Blues nervously awaiting their fate.
They are 16th in the Premier League, nervously looking over their shoulders as a meagre four points separate them from the bottom three.
Everton have a couple of players poised to switch allegiances this summer, and their negotiating position could be further weakened if they drop to the Championship.
Onana could leave Everton this summer, and the Belgian is not short on potential suitors. Premier League clubs are lining up to secure his services.
They will have to contend with Bayern, who are ready to splash the cash to finally reinforce their defensive midfield.
The Bavarians came close to landing Fulham’s Joao Palhinha last summer, but a deal broke down at the death, with the Cottagers unable to sign a replacement before the transfer deadline.
Bayern have switched their attention to Onana, although Everton are ready to demand at least £60 million. They are determined to make a significant profit on a player who cost them £33m in 2022.
The 22-year-old has bolstered his reputation with his excellent performances for Dyche’s struggling Blues, making 29 appearances across all competitions.
Onana has also become one of the first names on the Belgian national team sheet, and his skill set would be a valuable asset for any team fighting for silverware, making a summer exit from Everton inevitable.
