Thiago Silva coy on Chelsea future amid Fluminense links

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has given his thoughts on a potential move to Brazilian club Fluminense.

Since joining Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, Silva has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup with the Blues.

The 39-year-old continues to perform at a high level and currently leads the Premier League in most successful passes and passing accuracy, having started all eight of his side’s matches this term.

Silva was linked with a return to Fluminense last summer before he opted to pen a one-year extension with his current employers.

As the Brazilian enters the final few months of his contract, links of a potential return to Fluminense have gathered pace again, and Silva has refused to give anything away regarding where he will be playing next season.

“This relationship has been going on for a long time, right?” Silva told TNT Brazil.

“But I prefer to remain silent at this moment, as there has already been some controversy in the recent past.

“I now have a family – I have children. So we have to think about this aspect too. It’s about seeing where things can bring us happiness to finish this beautiful and successful career that I believe I have achieved.”

Silva has previously stated his desire to play into his forties like the legendary Paolo Maldini and could return to his native country this summer as he approaches the twilight of his illustrious career.

With Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile now in contention for a starting place, Silva’s time at Stamford Bridge is gradually ending as Chelsea owner Todd Boehly continues his youthful revamp.
