Julen Lopetegui primed to become next Manchester United manager

Julen Lopetegui is in line yo become the next manager of Manchester United, according to Relevo.

Last night’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich was United’s 12th of the season across all competitions.

It was also their second in a row off the back of a disappointing 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth in their most recent league outing.

Losing to Bayern saw the Red Devils finish bottom of their Champions League group with just four points from six matches and 15 goals conceded.

This was a new unwanted record for any English club in the Champions League, marking another low point for Erik ten Hag.

While United are not expected to sack Ten Hag in the immediate future, the Dutchman’s future is far from secure heading into Sunday’s heavyweight meeting against Liverpool at Anfield.

If United opt for a managerial change sooner or later this season, Lopetegui is believed to be the main favourite to take the reins at Old Trafford, although Zinedine Zidane, Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi have also been linked.

The Man United hierarchy reportedly values Lopetegui due to his command of English and his experience in European competitions, having won the Europa League during his time at Sevilla, beating Man United en route in the semi-final.

Since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers due to off-the-field problems in August, Lopetegui has been without a job and recently turned down a huge offer worth €18 million from the Middle East.
