Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool training

Liverpool have been handed a major fitness boost with star man Mohamed Salah back in training for the first time in two weeks.

Salah sustained a thigh injury while on international duty with Egypt in the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

He briefly returned to action in last month’s clash against Brentford where he scored and assisted after coming on as a first-half substitute.

The winger has since missed each of Liverpool’s last four matches across all competitions and remains doubtful for his side’s Europa League clash against Sparta Prague on Thursday.

However, Salah could be in contention to feature against Manchester City on Sunday having returned to full training earlier today.

While Liverpool will be pleased by Salah’s impending return, they are still without several first-team stars for this weekend’s heavyweight meeting including Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have navigated an extensive period of injury crisis quite well with eight wins from their last nine matches.

Liverpool are top of the Premier League, one point clear of Man City and two ahead of Arsenal in what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting title races ever.

The Reds also secured League Cup glory thanks to Virgil van Dijk’s late header against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium last month.

They also remain in FA Cup contention with a quarter-final tie against Manchester United scheduled for March 17.
