Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes will likely leave the club with Liverpool and AS Roma interested in securing his services, according to the Daily Mail.
There is a growing acceptance at Bournemouth that Hughes could leave this summer. His reputation as a shrewd transfer operator is attracting attention from across Europe.
Liverpool are looking to replace Jorg Schmadtke, who left his position as sporting director in January. Their first choice is to bring back former sporting director Michael Edwards, but he is not keen on returning.
However, Edwards reportedly holds Hughes in high regard. This could pave the way for a move.
Roma are also looking to fill a vacancy left by Tiago Pinto’s departure last month. Pinto left with the Romans struggling below the Champions League places amid public clashes with then-manager Jose Mourinho.
Hughes is fluent in Italian and has lived in Italy, making him an attractive option for the Serie A club.
Bournemouth would prefer for Hughes to move abroad, but he has serious interest from clubs in England and could decide to stick around.
Newcastle United are also potential suitors as manager Eddie Howe shares a close relationship with Hughes from their time together at Bournemouth.
Current Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth has been placed on gardening leave while they discuss a move with Manchester United.
Hughes received plaudits after his work during last summer’s transfer window, signing Tyler Adams, Hamed Junior Traore, Alex Scott, Milos Kerkez, Justin Kluivert, Max Aarons, Enes Unal, Luis Sinisterra and Andrei Radu.
The Cherries are 13th in the Premier League with 31 points, nicely clear of the relegation places thanks to Hughes’ fantastic work.
