Thomas Tuchel to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is set to leave the club at the end of the season, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Following Julian Nagelsmann’s dismissal, Tuchel took the reins last season with Bayern still competing on three fronts but only managed to scrape a Bundesliga title on the final day.

The German has overseen a much more difficult campaign this term with Bayern currently second in the league standings.

The Bavarians have also been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal, while their Champions League destiny hangs in the balance.

Off the back of a 3-2 defeat to Bochum last time out, Tuchel was in danger of being relieved of his duties as Bayern boss but he has now reached an agreement with the club to part ways this summer.

Tuchel will be looking to bow out of the Allianz Arena on a high, but the Champions League represents his best chance of silverware with Bayern eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race.

However, the ex-Chelsea manager will first have to lead his side past a 1-0 first-leg defeat to Lazio as Bayern look to avoid a first trophyless season since the 2011/12 campaign.

Xabi Alonso is reportedly Bayern’s most preferred managerial target as things stand, but the Leverkusen boss is also a wanted man at Anfield and could favour a return to his former side.

This could see Bayern turn their attention to other targets such as Zinedine Zidane, Antonio Conte and Hansi Flick, who recently led the Bavarians to a historic treble in 2020.
