Eric Dier makes permanent switch to Bayern Munich from Tottenham

Eric Dier’s loan move to Bayern Munich has now been made permanent, with the England international defender signing a deal to stay at the Allianz Arena until June 2025, per The Athletic.

The 30-year-old joined the German giants on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January, with an option to buy included in the deal.

The clause was triggered after Dier met specified performance criteria, and Bayern will effectively sign him as a free agent when his Spurs contract expires this summer.

Dier has impressed in his limited appearances for Bayern, making four starts in six outings. He has won 67% of his ground and 63% of his aerial duels, while being solid on the ball with a 90% passing accuracy.

He played a key role in their recent 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig, demonstrating the leadership qualities that have persuaded Bayern to commit to a permanent transfer.

The shock move to Bayern came after Dier fell out of favour at Tottenham, featuring just four times across all competitions this season.

It was clear that new manager Ange Postecoglou did not trust the former Sporting CP defender. The arrival of Radu Dragusin increased competition for places and pushed him out of the door.

This transfer sees Bayern further bolster their squad as they challenge for the Bundesliga title. They currently sit second in the league table. Their next test comes when they face SC Freiburg on Friday.

Bayern will be desperate for points in the coming weeks as Bayer Leverkusen look to remove Die Rekordmeister’s firm grip on the Bundesliga trophy they have won 11 times in a row.

Leverkusen are eight points clear at the top of the league, but Bayern will be breathing down their necks in the final stretch of the title race as former Tottenham stars Harry Kane and Dier look for their first piece of silverware.
