Jude Bellingham sidelined for three weeks with an ankle sprain

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is set for three weeks on the sidelines after spraining his left ankle in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Girona.

Bellingham scored twice for Los Blancos but had to be replaced in the 57th minute due to an injury scare with Brahim Diaz taking his place.

The Englishman underwent a scan earlier today and has been ruled out for the next few weeks.

“Following tests carried out today on Jude Bellingham by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left ankle,” a statement on Madrid’s official website read.

“His recovery will be monitored.”

Bellingham is set to miss Madrid’s Champions League first-leg clash against RB Leipzig and subsequent league matches against Rayo Vallecano, Sevilla and Valencia.

However, he should be back for the conclusion of his side’s European tie in early March.

He is the second Madrid star in the last 48 hours to have been dealt an injury blow, as Antonio Rudiger had to sit out the Girona game with a thigh problem despite initially making the matchday squad.

Having made an instant impact with 20 goals and eight assists in 29 games across all competitions since signing from Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham’s absence is a big blow for Madrid who remain firmly in the hunt for glory on both domestic and continental fronts.

Heading into their European commitment on Tuesday, yesterday’s victory moved Carlo Ancelotti’s side five points clear at the top of the La Liga table heading into the final 14 matches of the season.
